1977 Press Photo King Kong on the Empire State Building scene in "King Kong"

This is an original press photo. Two months ago, "King Kong" was the talk of the town. Two weeks later, everybody was tired of hearing. That was the remake, now, Channel 6 brings us something people have been talking about for 44 years: the original, 1933, a good-time-was-had-by-all, real "King Kong." It's wonderful entertainment. A lot is familiar, even to those who never saw the first one. King Kong on the Empire State Building, battling the aeroplanes, Fay Wray screaming a lot, old-fashioned thrills and chillds and campy fun.Photo measures 10 x 8inches. Photo is dated 2-13-1977.

1976 Press Photo Dino De Laurentiis Presents "King Kong" - lrz04703

This is an original press photo. Dino de Laurentiis has gone to a good deal of trouble to wipe out memory of the original "King Kong" with his much-ballyhooed $24 million remake. Last summer theaters were already showing teaser previews claiming "there is only one Kong," and the tagline in the current ads calls it "the most exciting original motion picture event of all time." De Laurentiis has also pulled the 1933 classic out of distribution indefinitely. Interviews with De Laurentiis and others working on the film have emphasized over and over how dated and corny the original was, how unnecessarily long the build-up to Kong's first appearance took, how jerky and unbelievable the stop-animation special effects were - and how modern movie technology and sophisticated writing were going to make us forget there ever was another "Kong."
