apprehension. Aliens have always captured, if not the planet, then at least the
popular imagination. From Sunday, March 23, to Sunday, March 30, Alien Invasion
Week contains shows that raise the question "Are we alone?" The week includes
two world premiere specials, Aliens Invade Hollywood [(March 23, from 9-10 pm
(ET)], a salute to aliens in the movies, and Alien Encounters [March 25, from
10-11 pm (ET)], a review of NASA's search for extra-terrestrial intelligence.

Los Angeles City Hall was blown apart yesterday by invading monsters from Mars, but it was only for a scene for a forthcoming movie, "The War of the Worlds." Gordon Jennings, special effects director at Paramount studio, built the five-foot model at left and then blew it up (right) to simulate the effect of a deadly ray supposedly in possession of the invaders. The movie is a modernized version of H.G. Wells story which Orson Welles produced on radio years ago and scared the wits out of the East coast. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. This drawing, published in 1906. by Alvin Correco, illustrates a part of HG
Wells' fantasy, "The War of the Worlds", radio dramatization of which nearly
caused a national panic Sunday night when broadcast by Orson Welles. This scene
depicts Londoners examining some of the strange machines used by the invading
army of Mars to spread death and destruction on this terrestrial sphere. After
the Martians died off, unable to "take it" on this disease ridden globe, the
death ray machines and disintegrators were of no avail. PS We won.Photo measures

arrival in Chicago for a speech Oct. 29 at Northwestern University.
Wells indicated his belief was that a wide-spreak war is in the offing.
