The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of things that happened 100yrs ago.
The day was July 4, 1862. On this side of the Atlantic the Civil war guns were
thundering but over in England peace and quiet hovered over ancient Oxford. It
was an idyllic day for a picnic along the river bank. Three little girls came
tripping from the large quadrangle known as Tom Quad at Christ Church College.
They were shepherded on their outing by two dons, the Rev Charles Lutwidge
Dodgson and his friend, Robinson Duckworth. Photo measures 7.5 x 10.25inches.
