Groener plays the part of a cat named Munkustrap, the number two man - or cat - in the pack of furry rascals who sing their tales to the audience. As it takes Groener 1 1/2 hours to apply his makeup, he leaves his Munkustrap face on between shows on those days with two performances. Photo measures 8 x 11.5 inches. Photo is dated 11-18-1982.

The "Cats" of Broadway's newest hit musical were all set to hit the nation's newsstands as a Newsweek cover on October 11, but that "Tylenol Scare" teaser at upper right became the major cover story and dumped the "Cats" cast from the cover. nevertheless, the mockup for the original Newsweek cover survived and was even turned into a wall-sized poster by some New Yorkers in the now.
