This is an original press photo. Old friends -- Lovers of cartoons can see some of the original animation cel paintings used in animated cartoons over the years. The paintings were on exhibit and sale Monday and Tuesday at Marquette University and will be on display Wednesday and Thursday at the Union Concourse at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. An animation cel painting is a rendering of a character or characters, painted by hand on a sheet of clear acetate. This painting on acetate then is placed against a background painting. The resulting image then is photographed one frame at a time to create the illusion of motion. Right: Popeye, Olive Oyl, and another character hammed it up in this animation cel painting.
