1972 Press Photo Halloween scene depicting "ghoulies, ghosties and beasties"
This is an original
press photo. Halloween scene depicting "ghoulies and ghosties" - From
ghoulies and ghosties and long leggety beasties and things that go bump
in the night, Good Lord, deliver us! The words above are from an
ancient Scottish prayer, but Tuesday night "ghoulies and ghosties and
long (also short) leggety beasties" rant rampant along the streets of
New Orleans and surrounding communities and contrary to the prayer,
normal-looking people delivered up goodies to them. In addition French
quarter fleshpots put on seasonal plumage, decorated bars with pumpkins,
skeletons, witches and devils. One Bourbon Street club decorated the
bodies and costumes of its strippers to commemorate the event. The
event was Halloween, the day before all Saints Day when (according to
ancient Christian lore) the forces of evil made an all-out effort to
entrap the souls of the faithful. Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is
dated 11-01-1972.
