Gumby

Loud applause and cheers from the crowd indicated Gumby was one of the more popular features of the City of Festivals Parade Saturday. Gumby is a character from a clamation TV series and was sponsored by the Milwaukee Insurance Company.  Photo is dated 06-19-1993.

Credit - United Press and NEA A symbolic stairway into the atomic age rises in the "Atomium," the theme piece of the Brussels, Belgium World's Fair. Soaring to a height of 330 feet and weighing 2,500 tons, the structure consists of three bipods supporting a maze of nine spheres, representing the atoms of a metal crystal, enlarged 150 billion times. Escalators will carry visitors through the tubes linking the aluminum-surfaced spheres, which will house exhibits showing peaceful uses of the atom. Photo is dated 10-18-1957.

1958 Press Photo Belgium- Nine Sphere Atomium at 1958 World's Fair in Brussels

Belgium- The nine-sphere Atomium, huge centerpiece of the pavilions and exhibits at the 1958 World's Fair, stretches from its resting place in Brussels, Belgium. Preparations are being made to put final aluminum covering over the skeleton of the one unfinished sphere. The Atomium represents a steel crystal of nine atoms. Each sphere is 55 feet in diameter and is interconnected by tubular passageways. There will be bars and restaurants in the lower spheres. The structure is well over 300 feet high. the fair opens April 17. Photo is dated 04-07-1958.
